Top 5 Things They Don't Tell You About Driving

Oh the joys of driving. A necessary evil in today’s time where all kinds of people have the opportunity to get behind the wheel, no matter their experience level. You’re taught the basics: How to put the car in park, reverse, drive, how to check your blind spots, to go the speed limit, to do complete stops and look both ways. But you’re never told what really happens on the road. So here are my top 5 things that happen on the road they never tell you about.

  1. A yellow traffic light means speed up

We’ve all been caught in this situation before, you’re headed towards an intersection at a decent speed and you see the light turn yellow. Do you slow down or speed up? If you’re like me (and don’t lie), you speed up. I will say the times I do speed up is because I’m too close to the intersection and in order for me to stop I would have the press the brake really hard and I don’t want to do that so I speed up instead. I’ve also had people honk at me for not running a yellow light when I have enough time to stop (road rage much?

  2. SO MUCH ROAD RAGE

Speaking of road rage, even the calmest of drivers will experience this at least once in their lifetime. Whether it’s tailgating someone, honking your horn (or obnoxiously holding the horn forever), cursing, flipping someone the middle finger, or something deadly like a gun being used (it does happen), it will happen to you and you may do it to someone. The top causes of road rage in my opinion: Slow drivers and cutting someone off.

  3. People don’t use turning signals…..often

Yes they come with the car. You don’t have to pay extra to have them and they’re right by the steering wheel. It’s so easily accessible that no one would NOT use them right? Wrong! The amount of people who don’t signal is mind boggling and is definitely something you will experience at least once a day. Might I add it’s one of my pet peeves of driving and a cause of road rage.

  4. Going the speed limit means you’re going slow

The speed limit is 30mph. You come up behind someone doing just that and you feel like they’re driving way too slow. The road rage begins and you can’t believe how they’re allowed on the road. If you’ve never done this then you’re lying. A majority of people speed and don’t get caught which is why it’s the norm.

  5. You don’t completely stop at stop signs, you yield

If you completely stop at stop signs, you’re doing it all wrong. I’m kidding of course but I see this on a daily basis (and have almost been hit a few times). Add in the fact that some people don’t look both ways and you’ve got a safe driver (ha…ha…ha).

I could add so much more to this list but I’ll keep it short and simple. Happy driving everyone!

P.S. Enjoy some nice car accident pictures and stay safe out there
